Frequently Asked Questions

Are these NDT templates really free?

Yes. Every checklist, template, and guide on this page is free to download in editable DOCX or XLSX format — no registration required. You may brand and adapt them for your own inspection projects.

Are the templates compliant with API and ASME codes?

Each template is structured around the relevant governing document — API 510, API 570, API 653, ASME Section V, ASME Section IX, SNT-TC-1A, ISO/IEC 17025, and ISO 9712 — and reflects the record-keeping expectations auditors look for. Always verify against the current code edition and your client specification before use.

Can Atlantis NDT customise a template for my company?

Yes. Our consultants develop branded, project-specific procedures, written practices, ITPs, and report formats tailored to your codes, equipment, and quality system. Scope and turnaround vary by requirement — contact us for a tailored quote within 24 hours.

Which template should I start with for an in-service inspection program?

Start with the NDT Inspection Checklist for execution discipline, add the API 510/570/653 report template matching your equipment type, and use the RBI Worksheet to prioritise inspection scope. The Written Practice template underpins your personnel certification program.

How often are the resources updated?

We review the library against current code editions and user feedback on an ongoing basis, and templates are versioned so you can confirm you are using the latest release.

Atlantis NDT Products & Services

Affordable. Accessible. Fully customizable. Book a free consultation — pricing varies by region and scope, and we return a tailored quote within 24 hours.

For the people managing everyone else’s certifications

Tracking one certification is easy; tracking two hundred across five methods, with vision exams, on-the-job hours and client-specific approvals, is where inspection companies lose client audits. Certification tracking and the wider inspection management software guide cover how currency is enforced at dispatch so a lapsed technician simply cannot be assigned to a job. There is also a free qualification and calibration register you can start using today.

Twenty-one NDT documents download free here in editable DOCX or XLSX with no registration: an inspection checklist, API 510, 570 and 653 report templates, an ITP carrying 17 standard QA/QC activities with H/W/R codes, an ASNT Level III study guide, an SNT-TC-1A written practice, an ISO/IEC 17025 calibration certificate, an ASME Section IX WPQR, and an API 581 RBI worksheet.

Each template is built around the record its governing document expects an auditor to find. The API 510 vessel report carries condition monitoring location thickness readings, corrosion rate, remaining life and the next inspection date. The API 570 piping record carries the same chain for piping circuits, with long-term and short-term corrosion rates computed side by side so the more conservative one drives remaining life. The API 653 template splits shell course readings, floor scanning, roof and settlement survey into separate sign-off sheets. The written practice follows the SNT-TC-1A clause order: scope, methods and levels, training and experience, examinations, vision, recertification and audits. The ISO/IEC 17025 calibration certificate carries as-found and as-left results, measurement uncertainty, the decision rule and traceability. The API 581 worksheet scores damage mechanisms into probability and consequence of failure on a 5x5 matrix that then sets inspection scope.

Do you have to register or pay to download these NDT templates?

No. Every checklist, template and study guide on this page downloads free in editable DOCX or XLSX with no email gate and no account. They can be rebranded with a company logo, renumbered into an existing document control system, and issued on live projects. The only condition is verification against the current code edition before the first controlled issue.

Which template do you start with for a new in-service inspection program?

Start with the NDT Inspection Checklist to fix execution discipline in the field. Add the API 510, 570 or 653 report template that matches the equipment type. Run the API 581 RBI Worksheet to rank equipment so inspection scope goes where risk is, not where access is easy. The SNT-TC-1A Written Practice underpins all of it by making personnel certification defensible.

How do you calculate remaining life on the API 570 piping record?

Remaining life equals actual thickness minus required thickness, divided by the corrosion rate. The long-term rate uses the first and current readings across the full service period; the short-term rate uses the previous and current readings. Both are computed and the inspector applies the more conservative result. The next inspection date falls at half the remaining life or the code interval, whichever comes first.

What must a calibration certificate contain to satisfy ISO/IEC 17025?

Identification of the item and the reference standards used, the calibration date, as-found and as-left results, measurement uncertainty stated with the result, the decision rule applied when conformity is declared, metrological traceability to national or international standards, environmental conditions where they affect the result, and the signature of the person authorising release. Omitting uncertainty or the decision rule is the finding auditors write most often.

What does SNT-TC-1A require a written practice to contain?

Scope and the organisation it covers; each NDT method and level used; training hours and documented experience per method and level; examination content, grading and administration; the certifying agent; vision requirements and their frequency; recertification interval and route; the technical performance evaluation for reinstatement; and internal audit of the program. The written practice is the controlling document, not SNT-TC-1A itself, which is a recommended practice.

Are these templates accepted by API and ASME auditors?

No template carries code approval, because neither API nor ASME certifies forms. An auditor judges the content of the completed record against the code clause it serves. These templates are structured to carry exactly that content, which is why they survive audit; what fails audit is a record missing thickness locations, uncertainty statements, essential variables or signatures, whatever the form it sits on.
